The MAD HATTER FESTIVAL OF GOLF is held every year at the historic ROYAL PORT ALFRED GOLF CLUB during the last week of April, from Monday to Saturday. The festival has been running for 18 years and has become a permanent fixture on the calendars of many ladies and gents who return year after year from all over South Africa and even beyond its borders. GOLF: Each day comprises a different Stableford competition. Monday to Wednesday, either an Alliance or Better-Ball format is played, whilst from Thursday through to Saturday the competitions are on an Individual basis. Each competition is supported by a different sponsor providing fabulous prizes. There is a points system in place for the Individual competitions which is used to calculate an Order of Merit Winner. The OOM Winner picks up a valuable prize from the Overall Sponsors, NEDBANK. Whilst the golf is played competitively, it also takes place in an atmosphere of camaraderie and fellowship, conducive to making new friends and having a good time. FUN, ENTERTAINMENT & CHARITIES: And its not just all about golf! There is Entertainment every evening, with live music and dancing. The new clubhouse, finished in 2007 in time to celebrate the Centenary of the club, has a well appointed bar with outstanding views looking out over the course and beyond to the sea. It also boasts a modern kitchen producing light meals and the best steaks in town, offering the facility of eating at the club and enjoying the evening's entertainment, fun and laughter. A daily newsletter, the HATTER CHATTER is produced, detailing each day's events, results and photographs (see navigation bar on the left). On a more serious note, a portion of the profits generated by the festival is set aside and donated to worthwhile, deserving local charity organisations. In this way, people from less fortunate circumstances also benefit from the generosity of club, players and sponsors.
